Barcode Generator
Create barcodes for your products, stock and shelves — one at a time or hundreds from a spreadsheet — and print them on standard label sheets.
This draws barcodes; it doesn't issue product numbers. Registered EAN and UPC numbers come from GS1. Use your own GS1-issued numbers, or Code 128 for internal codes.
Print label sheets
Choose a layout that matches your label sheets, or enter its measurements. Print the calibration page on plain paper first to check the alignment.
Printing barcodes that scan
1. Test the layout
Print the calibration page on plain paper at 100%. Check the rulers measure 100 mm and 4 inches, then line it up against a label sheet.
2. Print one sheet
Turn off “Fit to page”, use your printer's best quality and black ink, and choose the label or heavy paper setting if it has one.
3. Scan before bulk
Scan a few labels with the scanner or phone app you'll really use, from the distance you'll use it. Then print the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Does this give me a barcode number for my product?+
No. It draws barcodes for numbers you already have. To sell in shops that need EAN or UPC codes, you need a GS1 company prefix and numbers issued by GS1 or your local GS1 office. For your own stock, shelves or shipping, any Code 128 value works.
Which barcode type should I use?+
EAN-13 for retail products sold internationally, UPC-A for retail in the US and Canada, and Code 128 for internal SKUs, bin locations, shipping and anything with letters.
What is a check digit?+
The last digit of an EAN or UPC number, worked out from the others so scanners can catch misreads. Enter 12 digits (EAN-13) or 11 digits (UPC-A) and it's added for you; enter the full number and it's checked.
Can I make many barcodes from a spreadsheet?+
Yes. Save your sheet as CSV and choose it under “CSV file”. Pick which columns hold the barcode, product name, SKU, price and number of labels. Rows that aren't valid are listed with the reason, and leading zeros are kept.
How do I get labels to line up with my label sheets?+
Choose the layout closest to your sheets, then print the calibration page on plain paper at 100% / Actual size. Hold it over a label sheet against a window and adjust the margins or gaps until the boxes line up.
Why won't my barcode scan?+
The usual causes are bars printed too small, a missing blank margin (quiet zone) either side, “Fit to page” scaling, or low-contrast printing. Keep bars at least 0.25 mm wide, use the recommended quiet zone, print in black on white and test with the scanner you'll use.
Are my product codes uploaded?+
No. Barcodes, label sheets and ZIP files are all made in your browser, and nothing is uploaded or stored.
